Remove dirt and stains immediately when they appear, and then it is best to hang the sweater outdoors on a hanger. It's even better if the weather is a little damp outside. Wool repels dirt and breaks down bacteria, making it self-cleaning and odor-free. When you notice that the garment hasn't become clean after a thorough airing, it might be time to wash it, then carefully follow the care instructions you find in the side seam.

If you wash wool by hand, do not let the wool clothes soak as this damages the wool fibers. Rinse in clean water. Do not wring. Instead, gently press out the water. Hang or lay the wool clothes to dry on a drying rack.
